Implants This is both a very old and a very new idea in body modification. The idea is to implant an object made from non reactive material, under the skin above the subcutaneous layer so that it is visible as a shape but completely encapsulated within the body. Traditional implants mainly consist of genital beading, where one or several beads maybe pearls or small pebbles were inserted under the skin of the penile shaft to increase sensation during intercourse. These were supposed to enhance pleasure for both partners. More recently people have begun inserting all sorts of things under the skin to produce horns, ridges and any number of other effects. Two most well known have to be The Enigma's horns, and Joe's metal mohican. The process of implanting is easily reversed by making a similar incision or piercing to that made during insertion and then removing the implant through the hole. Some implant procedures involve stitches but not all. Many heal quicker than a piercing with only minor swelling and bruising. The main risk from this is that of infection from unclean materials being inserted, or air spaces within the item corrupting the healing process. There is lots of information about implants on the web at BME but it is very difficult to find someone legally doing this work in the UK. If you are serious about this sort of body modification make sure you ask loads of questions and be 100% sure of the person who will be performing the implant. This is Underground body mods and as such unregulated which means there are plenty of cowboys who would love a guineapig to practice on (or butcher for a quick buck) as well as proper body art professionals who have done the necessary research to do a good job. Make sure you get the right one!
