dermal.JPG (39891 bytes)This lobe was pierced using a dermal punch instead of a needle. Because the end of the punch is flat it works like an apple corer and actually removes a piece of tissue to make the hole. A normal needle really makes a semicircular slit. This is usually used for larger gauge cartilage piercing to reduce pressure on the surrounding tissue from the jewellery and speed up healing. However this customer had a lump of irritating scar tissue in her lobe from an old gun piercing which she wanted removing. The piece of tissue removed can be seen in  the next photo - gruesome or what? This piercing was healed completely within a month and she has already started stretching it up.tissuecore.JPG (41344 bytes)
